Paul Scholes: Why Liverpool are real threat in Premier League title race

The Manchester United legend delivers a glowing verdict on Jurgen Klopp's impressive Liverpool side

Paul Scholes says Liverpool are a real threat in the Premier League title race.

The Reds are in fourth place and two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal after eight top-flight games.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side at Anfield on Monday night to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

The Merseyside club have already beaten top-four rivals Arsenal and Chelsea as well as defending Premier League champions Leicester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on West Brom, Crystal Palace, Watford, Southampton, Sunderland, Bournemouth and West Ham in their next seven Premier League fixtures.

Former United midfielder Scholes believes Klopp’s impressive Reds outfit are genuine Premier League title contenders.

“You can see Jurgen Klopp has stamped his way of playing football on the team,” Scholes told BBC Sport.

“There is a definite way about them. You know how they are going to play: they are going to be quick; they are going to try to take the ball off you and try to score goals by flooding the box.

“I was worried about them defensively, but they have already played some of the big teams and they are a real threat.

“The form they are in, they look as good as any team in the league.”

Klopp won the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund twice during his spell in charge at Westfalenstadion despite competition from Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have never won the Premier League title but have finished in second place in 2009 and 2014.
