Phil Neville reacts to Man United’s 1-0 win over Man City

Phil Neville believes that Manchester United will take huge amounts of confidence from their 1-0 win over Manchester City

Phil Neville believes that Manchester United will take huge amounts of confidence from their 1-0 win over Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Juan Mata ended up scoring the only goal of the game midway through the second half at Old Trafford as the Red Devils booked their place in the quarter-finals of the cup competition.

The result came as a welcome relief to Manchester United fans after the disappointment of their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

And former Manchester United defender Neville talked up the significance of the result after the final whistle.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Neville said: “It is a massive confidence booster and a massive relief.

“I think Jose said before the game that he was embarrassed after Sunday. They needed the win tonight. The confidence from winning a big game for these players I think is huge.”

Manchester United now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their home clash against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
