Phil Neville: This Chelsea star thriving under Antonio Conte
The former Manchester United defender is impressed with Eden Hazard's resurgence at Chelsea
Eden Hazard is thriving in Antonio Conte’s new-look Chelsea side, according to Phil Neville.
The Belgium international won the PFA player of the year award in 2015 after the forward scored 14 times in 38 games in Chelsea’s title-winning season under Jose Mourinho in 2014-15.
However, the 25-year-old struggled to maintain his high levels last term and the Chelsea star didn’t score a Premier League goal until April at Bournemouth.
Hazard has hit the ground running this season and the former Lille star scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
And Neville pointed out that Conte’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation has really brought out the best in Hazard in recent weeks.
“Hazard in particular has benefited because he is taking up much better positions and is having a greater effect on games for the full 90 minutes because the defensive responsibility is totally off him,” Neville told BBC Sport.
Chelsea are in fourth place in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Manchester City after nine games.
The west London side will make the trip to London rivals West Ham United in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
