Phil Thompson issues warning to Liverpool ahead of Man United clash
Phil Thompson has warned Liverpool about the threat posed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Anfield on Monday night
Phil Thompson has warned Liverpool that they will have to be at their best if they want to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet during Monday night’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at Anfield.
Ibrahimovic has made a strong start to life at Old Trafford after completing his transfer to the Red Devils following his exit from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
The 35-year-old forward has already scored six goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season and looks comfortable leading the Manchester United front line.
And Thompson has warned the Reds that Ibrahimovic will pose a big threat for United when the Red Devils travel to Anfield early next week.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Thompson said: “Daniel Sturridge has done OK but he’s been in and out and I just think Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the biggest danger to Liverpool’s defence.
“Him peeling off onto the far post against the likes of Clyne and Milner from set-pieces will be a real area of concern.”
Manchester United head into the game looking to return to winning ways after their 1-1 draw with Stoke before the international break.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are fourth in the Premier League table after their 2-1 win at Swansea last time out.
