Alex Iwobi was thrilled to play his part for Nigeria in Sunday's 2-1 win over Zambia

Alex Iwobi has taken to social media to reveal his delight at making his first full start for Nigeria’s national team after also netting his first goal for his country.

The Arsenal starlet featured from the start as he helped to fire his country to a 2-1 victory away to Zambia on Sunday in World Cup qualifying.

Iwobi has earned plenty of new admirers in recent months after breaking into the Arsenal first team and producing a string of impressive displays for Arsene Wenger’s men.

The 20-year-old came through Arsenal’s youth system and is confidently holding down a regular starting spot in the Gunners’ first team.

And the midfielder appears to have transferred his good club form onto the international stage.

Iwobi posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account after Sunday’s victory and wrote: “Glad To Get My 1st Competitive International Debut Start & Also My 1st International Goal … Also Congrats To My Bro @kelechi72 On His Goal 👊🏽🇳🇬 #SuperEagles”

Iwobi will be hoping to be involved when Arsenal return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Swansea City at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners are currently in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City.
