The Brazil international’s mother lost her long battle with cancer earlier this week after Willian scored for his national team in a 2-0 win against Venezuela.
Understandably, the 28-year-old winger was not involved in Antonio Conte’s match-day squad for the visit of the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.
However, Willian and his family were in the thoughts of the Chelsea players as Costa and Hazard acknowledged the midfielder’s tragic loss following their goals.
The Chelsea duo held up their fingers to signal a ‘W’ and his squad number 22 as Costa and Hazard paid tribute to their team-mate.
Chelsea’s 3-0 win against the reigning Premier League champions has helped the west London side draw level on 16 points with their top-four rivals Liverpool.
The Blues will host Manchester United in their next top-flight game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
Conte was appointed as Chelsea manager earlier this year.
