Wayne Rooney has taken to social media to reveal his excitement at seeing former Manchester United star Robin van Persie when the Red Devils take on Fenerbahce in Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to return to winning ways after their goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.

Rooney was a second-half substitute against Jurgen Klopp’s men as the Red Devils managed to contain Liverpool’s attacking threat on Merseyside.

And the Manchester United skipper admits that he is looking forward to catching up with former Arsenal captain Van Persie on Thursday night.

Rooney shared the photo above on his personal Instagram account and wrote: “Solid performance last night in a tough game. Looking forward to the next match on Thursday against Fenerbahce and seeing my old teammate and friend @robinvanpersie!”

The Red Devils have taken three points from their opening two Europa League games.
