Ray Parlour issues backing for Jurgen Klopp’s handling of Liverpool striker

The Arsenal midfielder doesn't see any problems with Jurgen Klopp's treatment of Daniel Sturridge

Ray Parlour believes Jurgen Klopp’s no-nonsense approach to Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is a positive move.

The Reds boss restored the England international to his starting line-up for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup fourth round on Tuesday night.

Sturridge proved a point to his manager with goals either side of half-time in a 2-1 win against their title rivals at Anfield to set up a League Cup quarter-final clash against Leeds United.

The 27-year-old has only started five of Liverpool’s nine Premier League games so far this season, with Roberto Firmino being preferred in a lone striker role in recent weeks.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour issued his backing for Klopp’s treatment of Sturridge since taking over at the Anfield outfit.

“If you’re a supporter, you want that mentality from a manager. He isn’t taking any prisoners, he is here to win games. He’s here to win Liverpool trophies. That’s what Liverpool fans want,” Parlour told the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast.

Sturridge has scored three goals in the League Cup this term but the Liverpool striker is still waiting to open his account in the Premier League.
