Rio Ferdinand reacts to Juan Mata’s goal in Man United v Man City

Rio Ferdinand approved of Juan Mata's goal in the Manchester derby on Wednesday night

Rio Ferdinand took to social media to praise Juan Mata after the Spaniard scored tor Manchester United in their 1-0 derby win over Manchester City on Wednesday night.

After a goalless first half in the EFL Cup fourth-round clash at Old Trafford, Mata broke the deadlock when he slotted home a loose ball in the penalty area following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s cross.

The Spaniard wheeled away in an emotional celebration as the playmaker helped United through to the quarter-finals of the cup competition.

He was then substituted to rapturous applause in the 72nd minute at Old Trafford.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand certainly seemed to approve of Mata’s opening goal.

Ferdinand tweeted:

Manchester United will now turn their attentions back to the Premier League and their home clash against Burnley on Saturday.

The Red Devils have only taken two points from their last three games in the top flight and currently trail the leaders by six points.
