Robbie Fowler has admitted that he has been very impressed by Liverpool’s start to the season under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have earned plenty of praise for their attacking style of play under their new boss as the German embarks on his first full season in charge at Anfield.

The Merseyside outfit are aiming to secure a return to the Champions League this season under their new manager as they bid to put the disappointment of their eighth placed finish in the Premier League last term behind them.

Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield last October and led the Reds to the League Cup and Europa League finals but failed to win either.

The Reds then slumped to a disappointing eighth-placed finish in the top flight last term.

Liverpool do not have the distraction of European football this term as they bid to break back into the top four.

And asked what has impressed him about Liverpool this season, Fowler told The Daily Mirror before Monday’s game with Manchester United: “Two things. First, the fact they’re not just winning, but doing it in style…by scoring goals.

“They’re exciting to watch, and in some ways they look a bit like the team I played in, in terms of going out and entertaining, creating loads of chances, as well as winning (and we did win, even though history has been rewritten to suggest we were abject failures).

“Second, and I hope I’m not tempting fate here, but in recent weeks they seem to have been a little more solid at the back.

“In the early games, they were winning, but always looked like an accident waiting to happen, always looked like they could concede from every attack. Now, they look more secure, which is a good sign, even if I’ll wait a little longer to pass judgement.”
