Robbie Savage: Latest Tottenham injury huge blow to title chances

The former Leicester man expresses his concerns over Toby Alderweireld's injury in Tottenham's 1-1 draw with West Brom

Robbie Savage says Toby Alderweireld’s injury is a huge blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s title chances.

The Belgium international was substituted in the second half of Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion after Alderweireld collided with his centre-half partner Jan Vertonghen.

The former Atletico Madrid defender has helped Tottenham secure the best defensive record in the Premier League this season after conceding just four times in eight top-flight games.

Former Leicester City midfielder Savage warned Tottenham that Alderweireld’s injury would be a massive blow to their title prospects given his influence on Pochettino’s defence.

“Toby Alderweireld went off – that could be a huge blow,” Savage told BBC Radio Five Live.

“Those two as a centre-half pairing have been absolutely magnificent. You’ve only conceded four goals and you’ve the best defensive record in the Premier League again.”

Tottenham salvaged a point at the Hawthorns Stadium after Dele Alli netted an added-time equaliser to cancel out Nacer Chadli’s opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites are in third place in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Manchester City and bitter north London rivals Arsenal after eight games.
