Robert Pires makes bold claim about Arsene Wenger and Arsenal

Arsene Wenger isn't suited to international management, according to Robert Pires

Robert Pires has questioned whether Arsene Wenger would be happy to give up club management amid speculation linking the Arsenal manager with the England job.

The 66-year-old celebrated his 20th anniversary as Gunners boss at Turf Moor last weekend as Laurent Koscielny scored a controversial winner in a 1-0 victory over Burnley.

Arsenal are currently in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after a five-game winning run in the top flight.

Wenger has just under a year remaining on his current Arsenal contract as the Gunners boss looks to end a 12-year drought since his last Premier League triumph.

Former Arsenal and France midfielder Pires doesn’t believe Wenger would enjoy international management given his involvement in the day-to-day running of the north London club.

“Arsene loves to be the pitch every morning,” Pires is quoted as saying by The Daily Mirror.

“It is like an obsession. Manager of the national team is not really the same.

“I understand the fans in England – they need a manager like Arsene Wenger. It would be a good opportunity for England but I don’t know if it would be for Arsene Wenger.

“Manager of a club like Arsenal and the manager of England? It is not the same job.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League last season and 10 points behind reigning champions Leicester City.
