Roberto Firmino lifts lid on adapting to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool style

The Brazilian says he always makes sure he can be relied on in a defensive capacity for Liverpool

Roberto Firmino has revealed that he is always out to make sure that he is doing his best job defensively for Liverpool as well as pushing forward.

Jurgen Klopp’s energetic style of play requires his players to work just as hard defensively as they do when they are attacking.

Firmino has been deployed in an attacking role for the Reds so far this season, often preferred up front ahead of striker Daniel Sturridge.

It has been suggested that Sturridge’s lack of game-time is due to the forward not being best-suited to Liverpool’s hard-working style when not in possession.

And Firmino’s latest comments about his mentality appear to underline why Klopp has been calling on the Brazilian so regularly this season.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website, Brazil international Firmino said: “I am an attacker; however, I don’t forget about defending.

“It’s always in my mind to help my teammates the best I can. I try to do both on the pitch – attacking and defending – never forgetting either responsibility.”
