Roy Keane: Why I’m still not convinced about Theo Walcott and Arsenal

The Manchester United legend isn't getting carried away with Theo Walcott and Arsenal despite impressive form

Roy Keane says history shows that Arsenal and Theo Walcott will struggle to maintain their impressive start to the Premier League season.

The England international scored his eighth goal in 10 games in all competitions on Wednesday night as Arsene Wenger’s side eased to a 6-0 victory over Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the Champions League group stage.

Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with leaders Manchester City after Walcott scored twice in a 3-2 win against Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.

Keane urged Walcott to relax amid growing hype surrounding the 27-year-old’s prolific start to the 2016-17 campaign after the former Southampton forward netted two goals in a 2-0 win against Basel in north London.

Asked to review his opinion during ITV‘s coverage of Arsenal’s landslide victory over Ludogorets on Wednesday night, former Manchester United captain Keane said: “It’s a good five weeks now [for Walcott].

“He is a good player in good form. The problem is, there is a question mark over most of these Arsenal players because we’ve seen it before. They start the season well but it is over the winter months when the big crunch games come up.”

Keane added: “It is not a criticism of the player because that’s what they’ve done before. History will tell us they’ll come up short.

“But I do think these Arsenal players look a touch stronger and [have] a bit more quality in depth.”
