Ryan Giggs delivers honest verdict on Man United star Jesse Lingard

Ryan Giggs delivers his verdict on Jesse Lingard and his future at Manchester United

Ryan Giggs has told Jesse Lingard that it is now time for him to “kick on” at Manchester United and fulfil his potential.

The winger has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United first team this season under new manager Jose Mourinho and has earned praise for his performances for the Red Devils.

Lingard was rewarded for his good club form with a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup 2018 qualifiers this month and made his senior debut in the 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley on Saturday night.

Giggs knows Lingard well from his time at Manchester United – and the Red Devils legend now wants to see the midfielder step his game up in the coming seasons.

Speaking on ITV as a pundit after England’s win over Malta on Saturday night, Giggs said: “Lingard has progressed, he’s not one of the 18-19 year olds that set the world on fire. He’s taken a bit time and has gone out on loan to three or four clubs.

“He’s trying to sort out what type of player he is because he can play a number of positions.

“He’s a player who gives energy, scores goals and is a real team player but now at 23, he’s got to kick on.”
