Ryan Giggs delivers verdict on new Man United signings

The former Manchester United midfielder has been impressed with Jose Mourinho's summer signings

Ryan Giggs has issued his backing for Jose Mourinho’s summer signings as Manchester United manager.

The former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager took over the reins from Louis van Gaal in May after United’s disappointing fifth-place finish last season.

Mourinho wasted no time strengthening the Red Devils squad after he recruited Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga outfit Villarreal.

The Portuguese coach signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in July before United completed a £30m deal for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Red Devils went on to land the world-record £89m signing of France midfielder Paul Pogba from Serie A giants Juventus in August.

And Giggs, who was Van Gaal’s assistant manager at Old Trafford, credited Mourinho with signing what the former Wales international believes are signings worthy of the stature of the Manchester club.

“This transfer window was very good. They look like Manchester United players. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is going to score you goals. Eric Bailly looks fantastic. Paul Pogba – OK – he is going to improve. He will get better,” Giggs told Sky Sports on Monday night.
