Ryan Giggs says coaching Jesse Lingard at Man United was a ‘nightmare’

Ryan Giggs lifts the lid on what it was like coaching a young Jesse Lingard at Manchester United

Ryan Giggs has admitted that coaching a young Jesse Lingard was a “nightmare” – because he always did everything right.

Lingard has been at Manchester United since 2000 and has come through the youth system at Old Trafford.

Giggs gained his A-level coaching licence while at Manchester United and has revealed how working with a young Lingard was difficult for him because the player was always setting very high standards.

Speaking as a pundit on ITV during the coverage of England’s win over Malta on Saturday night, Giggs said: “I coached him when he was 10, and my subject for my A license was coaching a number 10.

“It was nightmare because he did everything right. I had nothing to work with!

“He was an intelligent player, even back then.”

Lingard will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
