Sadio Mane: How Liverpool’s training ground work paid off

The Liverpool forward lifts the lid on the home side's master plan for their 2-1 win against West Brom on Saturday evening

Sadio Mane has revealed that Liverpool’s training ground preparations paid off in Saturday night’s 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool played out a frustrating goalless draw with Manchester United on Monday night after Jose Mourinho managed to nullify Jurgen Klopp’s impressive attack.

However, the Reds were able to make an early breakthrough on Saturday evening as Mane volleyed past West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster in the 20th minute.

Liverpool capitalised on some poor defending to double their lead through Philippe Coutinho, who squeezed a close-range finish past the Baggies shot stopper.

Mane has scored eight goals and has made four assists since his £30m move to Liverpool from their Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer.

And the Senegal international has revealed how Klopp’s preparations on the training ground paid dividends against West Brom on Saturday evening.

“I’m very happy to score the goal for my team,” Mane told Liverpool’s website.

“Every striker likes to score a goal but the most important thing is the team.

“We deserved the win today and played a wonderful game to get the three points.

“It wasn’t easy because they were very compact but we trained hard [for this] every day in training.

“It made it easier because we tried to move between the lines.”

Liverpool have collected 20 points from their opening nine Premier League games.
