Stan Collymore issues warning to Pep Guardiola over Arsenal, Liverpool

The former Liverpool striker warns Pep Guardiola that he can't afford to slip up again amid a competitive title race

Stan Collymore has issued a warning to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after their 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

The Citizens suffered their first Premier League defeat under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach at White Hart Lane following Aleksandar Kolarov’s own goal and Dele Alli’s first strike of the season.

City are still top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of Tottenham despite losing their first top-flight game under the Spanish coach.

However, former Liverpool striker Collymore warned Guardiola that City’s chief title rivals are ready to pounce if their manager doesn’t come up with an alternative plan for the Eastlands outfit when his players are struggling.

“Pep Guardiola didn’t appear to be man with a Plan B at Tottenham on Sunday, when his side kept playing it back to Claudio Bravo even though the sweeper-keeper kept giving it straight back to Spurs,” Collymore told The Daily Mirror.

“If you want to win the Premier League, Pep, then I’m afraid with Jurgen Klopp, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Ronald Koeman and Antonio Conte around you, you can’t afford to make that mistake more than once or twice.”

City won the Premier League title in 2012 and 2014 but finished in fourth place last season.

The Citizens appointed Guardiola as Manuel Pellegrini’s permanent successor earlier this year.
