Stan Collymore predicts where Liverpool will finish this season
The former Liverpool striker is tipping the Merseyside outfit to finish in the top four this term
Stan Collymore is backing Liverpool to finish in the top four but is playing down talk of the Reds winning the Premier League title.
The 18-time English champions are in third place in the table and level on points with leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are second favourites to win the Premier League crown behind Pep Guardiola’s side after an impressive start to the season.
Liverpool haven’t won the Premier League title but have finished in second place under Rafael Benitez in 2009 and under Brendan Rodgers in 2014.
However, former Reds striker Collymore believes a top-four finish would represent progress this season before challenging for the title in the coming years.
“I think they’ll be top four,” Collymore told BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 show.
“They’ve just given the man a six-year contract. Sooner or later, being happy to have a positive great media speaker at the club has to dissipate and Liverpool have to be challenging for titles. Getting the top four would be the first step.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Klopp replaced Rodgers at the Anfield helm in October 2015.
The Reds manager led the Merseyside club to the League Cup and Europa League finals.
Klopp’s side make the trip to London side Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.
