Steven Gerrard tells critics to lay off Liverpool star
Steven Gerrard has his say on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson
Steven Gerrard has told Jordan Henderson’s critics not to compare the Liverpool captain to any other players.
The England international has been a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s first team this season and has helped the Reds make a strong start to the campaign.
Henderson has scored one goal and made one assist in seven Premier League games for the Reds so far this season to help Liverpool up to fourth place in the table.
The midfielder has had his fair share of criticism since arriving at Liverpool from Sunderland, but former Reds captain Gerrard feels that Henderson should not be compared to any players, past or present.
Speaking in an interview with Radio City Talk, LA Galaxy midfielder Gerrard said: “I think criticism happens a lot in football, I’ve had it myself. It’s all about different eras.
“We see players described as the next Paul Gascoigne, the next Bobby Moore.
“People have got to judge Jordan Henderson for Jordan Henderson. What does he give to the team, what does he give to his team-mates around him?”
Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League table last season.
The Merseyside outfit are next in Premier League action when they host Manchester United at Anfield after the international break on Monday 17 October.
