Thibaut Courtois sends message to Jose Mourinho ahead of Chelsea v Man United
Thibaut Courtois discusses his relationship with Jose Mourinho ahead of Sunday's showdown
Thibaut Courtois says that he will always be thankful to Jose Mourinho for bringing him back to Chelsea ahead of Manchester United’s clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues head into the game preparing to welcome the Portuguese coach back to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his sacking by Chelsea back in December of last year.
Mourinho was dismissed after Chelsea’s disastrous start to the season led to them finishing in 10th place in the table and with their title defence in tatters.
The Portuguese coach has since been appointed as the new man in charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of Louis van Gaal back in May.
United head into the game looking to return to winning ways in the top flight after their recent draws against Stoke City and Liverpool.
Mourinho was the man to recall Courtois from his loan spells at Atletico Madrid and opted to place his faith in him over Petr Cech.
And Courtois says he will always have respect for the Manchester United manager.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Courtois said: “I think he’s a top manager.
“I was happy to work under him. He brought me back [from a loan spell at Atletico Madrid], played me and then we became champions. That was very good. But it didn’t work out in the second year.
“Everybody wasn’t at their best level after being champions but that won’t affect the relationship I had with him before.
“I will always be thankful for bringing me back and playing me. It’s always nice to play under top managers. You learn a lot from them.”
