Thierry Henry says Mesut Ozil has Arsenal star to thank for his good form
Thierry Henry discusses the form of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for Arsenal this season
Thierry Henry believes that Mesut Ozil is finding himself with better goal-scoring opportunities for Arsenal this season thanks to the movement of Alexis Sanchez.
The Germany playmaker has been in good form for the Gunners in front of goal this term and netted his first career hat-trick in the 6-0 demolition of Ludogorets in the Champions League earlier this month.
Ozil has scored six goals and made two assists in all competitions for Arsenal this season as he continues to be one of the north London club’s top performers.
Sanchez, meanwhile, has been deployed in a central striking role for Arsenal for much of the campaign in the absence of the injured Olivier Giroud.
And former Arsenal star Henry feels that Sanchez’s style of play up front is opening up space for Ozil this season.
Speaking in an interview with The London Evening Standard, Henry said: “By myself, I always said in the past two years that Sanchez could be used as an option as a centre-forward.
“He’s finally playing as a centre forward. He does it for Chile, so it’s not something that he doesn’t know how to do.
“He did it for Udinese also in Italy and does it ever so well.
“When you have a guy who as a No9, the way he puts pressure, the way he moves, his vision for the ball, that creates a lot of holes for Ozil.
“That’s why Ozil is scoring a lot of goals – off the movement of Alexis Sanchez.”
Arsenal are currently gearing up for their Premier League trip to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday lunchtime.
