Tony Cascarino: Jurgen Klopp should sign this Dortmund star for Liverpool
The Chelsea legend believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be the answer for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
Tony Cascarino says Jurgen Klopp should sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to replace Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge.
The England international was handed a watching brief from the substitutes’ bench on Saturday evening as Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane scored first-half goals in 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
Sturridge started his fifth Premier League of the season against Manchester United last week but the striker touched the ball just 22 times in Liverpool’s goalless draws at Anfield.
Aubameyang scored 41 times in 94 appearances in all competitions during Klopp’s final two seasons in charge of Dortmund before the charismatic manager stood down in 2015.
The Gabon international has since blossomed into one of Europe’s deadliest goal-scorers after netting 49 times in 60 games under Klopp’s successor, Thomas Tuchel.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino believes Klopp should sign Aubameyang to lead his Liverpool front-line, adding that Sturridge doesn’t fit into the manager’s long-term plans.
“I don’t think he has a future at Liverpool. I don’t think he fits into Jurgen Klopp’s team. I would get the man from Borussia Dortmund – PEA. He is lightening quick. He may fit,” Cascarino told The Times’ The Game Podcast.
Sturridge was signed in a £12m deal from Chelsea in January 2013 under Klopp’s successor Brendan Rodgers.
