Tottenham star drops hint about new contract ahead of Bournemouth trip

Jan Vertonghen hints that he will be happy to sign a new contract with Tottenham this season

Jan Vertonghen has hinted that he could follow a number of his Tottenham team-mates by signing a new contract with the north London club in the coming weeks

There have been reports in the British media in recent weeks that the Belgium international has already agreed a new deal in principle with Spurs but has not yet put pen to paper.

Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012 and has been in talks with the club over a new contract since the beginning of the year.

The defender currently has two years remaining on his current deal at White Hart Lane and Spurs are likely to be keen to tie the defender down to a new contract.

And Vertonghen seems to have indicated his desire to commit his future to Tottenham after their impressive start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Vertonghen is quoted as saying by ESPN: “It’s important that so many of us are signing new deals and all think the same about Tottenham – the way we want to stay together for years and believe in what we are doing here.

“It is just great to be part of it.”
