Paul Merson states prediction for Tottenham v Leicester
The Arsenal legend is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to start a big week with a win against Leicester City
Paul Merson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to make a winning start to a huge week in their season as Leicester City make the trip to White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are without a victory in their last four outings in all competitions since a 2-0 win against Premier League leaders Manchester City last month.
Tottenham have played out stalemates with West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth in the Premier League, with a 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League sandwiched between those two top-flight fixtures.
Liverpool were 2-1 winners against the north London side in the fourth round of the League Cup at Anfield on Tuesday night after goals from Daniel Sturridge proved decisive.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t see Tottenham dropping points against the defending Premier League champions at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon despite their recent form.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Claudio Ranieri rested his stars again with Copenhagen to come in the Champions League. That’s the priority now and if they can get a result in Denmark, qualification is done and dusted,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“It’s an interesting game for Tottenham because they’re coming off a draw against Bournemouth, and if they drop points on Saturday, their next league game is away at Arsenal after a Champions League tie. It’s potentially a tricky little run so it makes beating Leicester quite important.
“I expect them to do it with Ranieri naming a similar team to the one that lost to Chelsea.”
Tottenham have dropped to fifth place in the Premier League table but the Lilywhites are only a point behind leaders Manchester City.
