Wayne Rooney makes claim about Man United starlet Marcus Rashford
Wayne Rooney praises Marcus Rashford after the striker's call-up to the England squad
Wayne Rooney has backed Marcus Rashford to take his opportunity to become a regular player in the England first team.
Rashford has earned plenty of new admirers since bursting onto the scene with Manchester United last season under Louis van Gaal.
The teenager has been deployed by new manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in recent weeks and the striker has continued his impressive form for the Red Devils.
Rashford has been rewarded for his good form with a recall to the senior England squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The teenager was included in the England squad for Euro 2016 in France but was used sparingly by then manager Roy Hodgson.
And Rooney is convinced that Rashford has what it takes to become a key player for the national side in the years to come.
Rooney told a news conference on Tuesday, as quoted by Manchester United’s website: “I think it is important that we have got exciting young players and that good young players get the rewards they deserve.
“He has been fantastic since he got into the Manchester United squad and he has carried that on at the start of this season.
“I think he fully deserves his chance to be in the England squad to play and, if he does that, I am sure he will take his opportunity.”
