Wayne Rooney responds to Michael Owen on Twitter over Liverpool tweet

Wayne Rooney questions Michael Owen's loyalties on Twitter after former striker issues support for Liverpool

Wayne Rooney couldn’t resist firing a tweet in Michael Owen’s direction after former Liverpool striker issued a rallying cry to Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of Saturday evening’s 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion.

The Merseyside outfit made the breakthrough in the 20th minute thanks to an impressive attacking move after Emre Can and Roberto Firmino combined to tee up Senegal international Sadio Mane.

Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho doubled the home side’s lead with his fourth Premier League goal of the season in the 35th minute.

However, Liverpool missed out on the chance to spend Saturday night on top of the Premier League table after Gareth McAuley halved the deficit with 10 minutes remaining at Anfield.

The 18-time English champions played out a goalless draw with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Monday night.

And Rooney, who was a second-half substitute on Merseyside earlier this week, questioned the loyalties of the former Liverpool and United striker on Twitter after Owen issued his support for Klopp’s men.
