Wenger delivers update on Arsenal star’s contract situation
Arsene Wenger discusses Hector Bellerin's current contract situation at Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal will look to extend Hector Bellerin’s contract to fend off interest from other clubs.
The Spanish defender has quickly earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best right-backs following his promotion to the first team at The Emirates.
Bellerin joined Arsenal from Barcelona as a youngster and there have been suggestions that the Spanish giants may try and re-sign the young defender in the future.
However, Wenger has moved to pour cold water on that speculation by insisting that he considers Bellerin’s long-term future to be at the north London club.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Thursday morning, Wenger said: “He has nearly three years to go and we always try get the players to the level where we think they deserve to be.
“So we try to extend, certainly, his contract. For me, his long-term future is here.
“What is important is that a player meets his needs where he is and his values, and I think he integrated very well with the values of our club.
“He came at a very, very young age of 16. I think he is a real Arsenal player.”
Arsenal are currently gearing up for their Premier League clash with Swansea City at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
The north London side are third in the Premier League and two points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new season.
