Paul Merson states prediction for West Brom v Tottenham

The former Arsenal midfielder doesn't expect Tottenham Hotspur to suffer a surprise defeat at West Brom

Paul Merson is confident Tottenham Hotspur will avoid a slip-up against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites underlined their status as genuine Premier League title contenders in their last game before the international break after a 2-0 win against Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Serbia international Aleksandar Kolarov scored an own goal to break the deadlock in north London before England midfielder Dele Alli doubled the home side’s lead to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2016-17 Premier League season and inflict a first defeat on new City manager Pep Guardiola.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t see Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive Tottenham side slipping up against the Baggies at the Hawthorns Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“Tottenham are playing very well at the moment and while the Man City result was brilliant, these are the types of games that win you Premier League titles,” Merson told Sky Sports.

He added: “West Brom have turned the corner but I have been majorly impressed by Tottenham.”

Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season after challenging reigning champions Leicester City for the title throughout much of the campaign.
