Alan Smith: This is Arsene Wenger’s obvious Arsenal weakness

The former Arsenal striker delivers his verdict on Arsene Wenger's tactics

Alan Smith has criticised Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to make early substitutions after Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

The Red Devils made the breakthrough in the 69th minute when Ander Herrera teed up Juan Mata and the Spanish midfielder placed a finish past his former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech in the Arsenal goal.

Wenger brought on Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Granit Xhaka in the 73rd minute as the Arsenal manager looked to rescue a result from the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

And his substitutions worked their magic after Oxlade-Chamberlain crossed for Giroud and the France international powered a header past David De Gea.

However, former Arsenal striker Smith questioned the timing of Wenger’s substitions in a tweet that was posted before Giroud’s equaliser.

When one Twitter user responded to Smith, the Arsenal legend was quick to reiterate his point on the social media website.

Arsenal are six points ahead of Manchester United in the race to finish in the top four.
