Alex Iwobi makes honest point ahead of Man United v Arsenal
Alex Iwobi says he must continue to fight for a place in the Arsenal first team this season
Alex Iwobi knows he must continue to prove himself as worthy of a regular spot in the Arsenal team this season.
The Nigeria midfielder has earned plenty of praise since breaking into the Arsenal first-team under Arsene Wenger last season.
The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal side in recent months and has featured in eight of the Gunners’ 11 Premier League games so far this season.
However, the midfielder is under no illusions about the level of competition at Arsenal and accepts that he must continue to raise his level and prove himself if he wants to be a regular fixture in the Gunners’ first team.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Iwobi said: “If you don’t do as well as you think you could’ve done, there’s other players, other international, great players, that can just step in.
“So you just have to take the chance all the time and do your best when the time comes.
“The big thing is you need to stay fit and always need to give it your all. I mean, you’ve got to have the right attitude, you’ve got to be mentally prepared for whatever happens.
“Not everything is going to be smooth sailing for you so you’ve got to be prepared for all conditions.”
Iwobi will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.
