Alex Iwobi makes refreshingly honest admission ahead of Arsenal v PSG

Alex Iwobi is taking nothing for granted about his run in the Arsenal first team

Alex Iwobi has admitted that he is treating each of his games in the Arsenal team as if it were his last.

The Nigeria midfielder has earned plenty of new admirers since breaking into the Gunners’ first team under Arsene Wenger last season.

Iwobi, a product of the Arsenal youth system, has been a regular fixture in the the starting line-up for Wenger’s men in recent months.

Indeed, the 20-year-old has featured in eight of Arsenal’s 12 Premier League games so far this season.

However, the young midfielder has insisted that he is taking nothing for granted and knows that he must continue to work to prove himself as worthy of a spot in the first team at The Emirates.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Iwobi said: “Honestly I didn’t expect to be where I am today.

“I thought a long time ago that I’d be on loan and probably get experience there before having experience in the first team, but the fact that the boss trusted me to jump into the first team as quick as I did, I’m just grateful for it.

“The same way I was able to break into it is the same way that I take the chance now.

“I play like it’s almost like my last game, I treat it like it’s my last moment here, so I do my best and I always put 100 per cent into whatever I do.”
