Arsenal legend explains why Chelsea are the favourites for the title
Martin Keown says Chelsea are in top shape heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League
Martin Keown believes that Chelsea are the favourites to win the Premier League title this season following their strong start to life under Antonio Conte.
The Blues have earned plenty of praise for their strong performances in recent weeks, with the west London side currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table after 12 games.
Conte has been tasked with getting Chelsea back to the top of English football after their disastrous 10th-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
The Italian coach was named as the Premier League manager of the month for October after overseeing a number of thumping wins, including the 4-0 demolition of Manchester United.
And former Arsenal star Keown says Chelsea are the team on top heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Keown said: “It looks like Chelsea [are in the best shape for the title].
“When Arsenal beat them 3-0, they were eight points off the top. Now they are a point clear of Liverpool in second.
“As Jose Mourinho reminded us recently, Chelsea were champions just 18 months ago. There is not much wrong there but if they want to build they will do so.
“They have the resources to strengthen in January should they wish. I wonder if they might do something in the wide positions. Does Conte start looking at a more naturally-gifted left-back?
“Chelsea have the financial muscle and a manager who knows his tactics and knows exactly what he wants.”
Chelsea finished 10th and without a trophy last season following Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in December 2015.
