Arsenal legend explains why Zlatan Ibrahimovic will help this Man United player
Martin Keown is backing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help Marcus Rashford develop into a top player at Manchester United
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the perfect role model for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United, according to Martin Keown.
Ibrahimovic has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United first team after signing for the Red Devils on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
The 35-year-old has been used up front by Jose Mourinho regularly despite approaching the end of his playing career.
Mourinho said last week that he is likely to extend Ibrahimovic’s stay at Old Trafford beyond next summer.
And Arsenal legend Keown believes that will be to the benefit of 19-year-old striker Rashford, who can learn invaluable lessons from the veteran forward.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Keown said: “I can see next year being the handover from Ibrahimovic to Rashford – and I can see why Jose Mourinho would want both players available.
“How many 35-year-olds have played more games than Ibrahimovic this season? Rashford is the long-term solution but I still think Ibrahimovic has got something to offer.
“The way he looks after himself, he is a good role model for Rashford. There is a weight of pressure on being the centre forward at Manchester United and that needs to be shared.”
Rashford has earned plenty of new admirers since breaking into the Manchester United first team under Louis van Gaal last season.
The 19-year-old striker will be hoping to establish himself as the main man up front for the Red Devils in the seasons to come.
