Arsenal legend sends blunt warning to Man United manager Jose Mourinho
Martin Keown warns that Jose Mourinho must keep a lid on his temper at Manchester United
Martin Keown has warned Jose Mourinho that he must keep a lid on his temper on the sidelines with Manchester United.
The Red Devils boss was sent to the stands in the first half of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Portuguese coach was given his marching orders for kicking a water bottle in frustration after his side fell behind early on in front of their home fans.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic ended up equalising for United but the Red Devils were unable to find a winner as they slumped to a disappointing draw.
It has been far from the perfect start for Mourinho at United following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
The Red Devils are now 11 points behind leaders Chelsea after 13 games of the new season and have only won two of their last 10 matches.
And former Arsenal star Keown has warned Mourinho that he must learn to control his temper on the sidelines.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Keown said: “Listen, he’s in a massive job and he needs to keep that lid on things.
“People say “you’re a former Arsenal player and you don’t want to see Manchester United do well”, but we do want to see good football.
“They were unlucky today but the hierarchy will not be happy with the image he is creating around that football club; he is overreacting.
“It is the second time it has happened and he needs to keep a lid on it.”
