Arsenal legend: Why Man United striker won’t finish as league’s top goal-scorer
Charlie Nicholas pours cold water on talk of Zlatan Ibrahimovic finishing as the Premier League's leading goal-scorer
Charlie Nicholas has poured cold water on the possibility of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic finishing as the Premier League’s top goal-scorer this season.
The Red Devils signed the Swedish legend on a free transfer from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window as new manager Jose Mourinho sought to bolster his Manchester United squad.
Ibrahimovic netted four times in his opening three competitive games for the 20-time English champions but failed to score in six Premier League appearances before bagging two goals in a 3-1 win at Swansea City.
Mourinho confirmed that Ibrahimovic will remain a Manchester United player until the end of the 2017-18 season ahead of their 4-0 win against Dutch side Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Asked to predict who will finish as the Premier League’s top goal-scorer this season, Nicholas told Sky Sports:
“I don’t see the big fella being in the race. I wouldn’t even have him in the top five. Against the smaller teams he’ll dominate but in the big games he doesn’t have the pace to have a big influence and make a difference.”
Ibrahimovic netted 38 times in 32 Ligue 1 games in 2015-16 as PSG continued their dominance of the French league.
The towering striker has never won the Champions League.
