Arsene Wenger admits this Arsenal player has been frustrated
Olivier Giroud has been frustrated at Arsenal in recent weeks, admits Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger has admitted that Olivier Giroud has been frustrated by his lack of first-team action at Arsenal in recent weeks.
The French striker has been restricted to a substitutes’ role of late after recently coming back from injury.
Alexis Sanchez has been deployed up front for Arsenal for much of the campaign and has impressed with his performances for the north London side.
However, Giroud once again proved his worth to the Gunners when he came off the bench to head home their equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Giroud has had to settle for a bit-part role in the Arsenal team in recent weeks.
And Arsenal boss Wenger concedes that the striker has been somewhat frustrated by his lack of first-team football.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Wenger said: “I consider him to be a regular player. He had a long holiday [after the Euros], after that he was injured and now he’s just coming back for a few games.
“It’s true that in the past two games he has been a bit frustrated but that’s normal because he’s ready to go again. The solution of Alexis up front has worked well and I have two options at the moment. Olivier Giroud is in both options because Alexis can play on the flank.
“Olivier can only play through the middle, so I can sometimes marry the two together.”
Giroud will be hoping to feature when Arsenal return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a home clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
