Arsene Wenger jokes about Hector Bellerin and Arsenal transfers
Arsene Wenger tells the media that they will have to start linking some other players with moves away from Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has aimed a light-hearted dig at the media after Hector Bellerin committed his future to Arsenal this week.
The Spanish full-back put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the Gunners on Monday afternoon after plenty of speculation linking him with a transfer away from The Emirates in recent months.
Manchester City and Barcelona were both linked with the defender before he committed his future to the north London club.
Attentions will now inevitably turn to the situations of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at The Emirates, with both players’ contracts set to expire in the summer of 2018.
However, Wenger could not help but aim a dig at the press after Bellerin committed his future to the north London side.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain, Wenger said: “When you give youngsters a chance to play in the first team, you want them to commit to the club.
“It sends out that the media will have to find a different name for someone that wants to leave!”
Arsenal are now preparing for their home clash against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
