Arsene Wenger lavishes praise on Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez
Arsene Wenger was full of praise for Alexis Sanchez after the forward's display for Arsenal at Old Trafford
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on the “remarkable” Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean’s display for Arsenal against Manchester United on Saturday.
There had been question marks about the forward’s fitness levels after he returned from Chile duty late on Thursday night in the build-up to Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at Old Trafford.
However, the 27-year-old featured from the start and looked no less energetic than usual as he helped Wenger’s men claim a valuable point at Old Trafford thanks to Olivier Giroud’s late equaliser.
Sanchez is currently believed to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending his contract beyond the summer of 2018 at The Emirates.
And Wenger heaped praise on the Chile international for his fitness levels after Saturday’s draw against United.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Wenger said: “It’s very unusual [to play someone after that].
“I chose him because Alexis is a guy who can take people on and I knew that would be a quality that would work. He is good on the counter-attack, good in short spaces as well. He’s always a player who is not scared of anybody.
“He played very well in the first half but we didn’t give him enough service in the second half because we dropped off too much and we played too many balls in our own half.
“We didn’t give him enough support by coming out more. For a guy who played a decisive game on Wednesday morning, and then travelling after, it’s remarkable.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions towards their crunch Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night at The Emirates.
