Belgium manager provides latest Chelsea injury update on Eden Hazard
Roberto Martinez provides an update on the fitness of Chelsea forward Eden Hazard
Roberto Martinez says Eden Hazard isn’t injured despite the Chelsea forward suffering a kick to the calf during international duty.
The Blues star has been in scintillating form in recent weeks after scoring four goals in his last three Premier League appearances.
Hazard netted twice in a 5-0 win against Martinez’s former side Everton at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
The 25-year-old has scored seven times and has made one assist in 11 Premier League appearances under new manager Antonio Conte.
Chelsea can ill-afford to lose Hazard in what looks set to be one of the closest Premier League title races in recent seasons.
Hazard was replaced in the 73rd minute in the closing stages of Belgium’s 8-1 victory over Estonia in Sunday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier.
However, Belgium manager Martinez has allayed the concerns of Chelsea supporters ahead of the west London side’s trip to Middlesbrough on Sunday.
“Eden Hazard has no injury, but he received a kick on the calf,” Martinez told his post-match media conference.
Chelsea are in second place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of leaders Liverpool.
