Charlie Nicholas states prediction for Arsenal v Southampton
Charlie Nicholas looks ahead to Arsenal's clash with Southampton on Wednesday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Arsenal to secure a 3-2 win over Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
The north London side head into the game looking to build on their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at The Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal are aiming to join Liverpool in booking their place in the last four of the competition in what is the first available piece of silverware in 2017.
And Nicholas is tipping the north London side to claim victory – but not without a struggle.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “Well this is an awkward one for Arsenal. They were lucky in the league meeting to beat Southampton, who recorded a very good result on Sunday.
“I do think the Saints will make changes which will make them weaker, although I’m sure Claude Puel would love a result against his good friend Arsene Wenger.
“You look at the players Arsenal can bring in and Aaron Ramsey can come in, Alex Iwobi can come in. The difference in the quality of players coming in will be decisive for me here and I think Arsenal will be able to end November with a win.”
Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League this season for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
The Gunners finished second and without a trophy last season under Arsene Wenger.
After Wednesday’s game, Arsenal will then turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their clash with West Ham United on Saturday night.
