Charlie Nicholas: This Tottenham striker doesn’t need to play well to score goals
The Arsenal legend talks up Tottenham centre-forward Harry Kane
Charlie Nicholas says Harry Kane will score goals even when the Tottenham Hotspur striker isn’t play well.
The England international returned to the Tottenham starting line-up for their short trip to Arsenal in the north London derby earlier this month.
Kane scored Spurs’ equaliser in the second half despite spending almost two months sidelined with an ankle problem.
The 23-year-old netted twice in the final minutes at White Hart Lane last weekend to seal a 3-2 win against West Ham United.
Kane continued his goal-scoring run with a Champions League goal on Tuesday night as Tottenham lost 2-1 to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
The England star finished as the Premier League’s leading goal-scorer last term after a return of 25 goals in 37 games.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas explained why Kane could finish with the Premier League’s golden boot in successive seasons.
“He’s got ground to make up but he doesn’t even need to be playing well to score goals,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“He always seems to start slowly before he gets going so now would be the time to back him. People will point to the fact that his last two goals were penalties and the other one was a tap in but I always stress it doesn’t matter how you’re scoring goals.”
