Charlie Nicholas: What’s different about Diego Costa under new Chelsea manager
The Arsenal legend delivers his verdict on Diego Costa's Chelsea form
Charlie Nicholas believes Diego Costa is showing incredible hunger under Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
The Spain international has been in prolific form for the west London side this season after Costa had scored 10 goals in 12 Premier League games ahead of Saturday evening’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Costa moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the 2014 summer transfer window after the controversial centre-forward helped to fire the west London side to Premier League title glory.
The Brazilian-born forward scored 20 times in 26 top-flight appearances during Chelsea’s 2014-15 Premier League title-winning campaign in his first season in the England.
However, the 28-year-old forward struggled badly last season as he failed to replicate his prolific form under Jose Mourinho and his interim replacement Guus Hiddink.
Former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas believes Costa has increased his hunger levels under Hiddink’s permanent successor Conte, which has sparked his prolific Premier League form.
“This is the man who should be favourite. I really do think this guy has got the hunger right now,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“He’s not blessed with the same finishing ability as Aguero but I think Chelsea will continue to create a lot of chances for him as the focal point of their attacks. His determination is always there and he ruthlessly executes when teams get tired.”
Chelsea signed five players in the summer transfer window under Conte.
