Chelsea legend: Arsene Wenger has this classic Arsenal problem
Pat Nevin says Arsene Wenger has too many numbers 10s at Arsenal
Pat Nevin believes Arsene Wenger has too many number 10s in his Arsenal squad.
The Gunners boss started Aaron Ramsey on the left of his midfield on Saturday afternoon as the north London side limped to a 1-1 draw with their bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Wales international filled a role that Alex Iwobi has been occupying for most of the 2016-17 season so far, while Mesut Ozil has previously been used on the left of a four-man midfield.
Former Chelsea midfielder Nevin believes Arsenal manager Wenger simply has too many number 10s in his squad and none of his options are suited to cutting in from the left wing.
Nevin told Newstalk: “I find it odd that they keep on trying to find someone to come in from that left-hand side. There was a period when they put Mesut Ozil out there. It was a complete and utter waste. Arsenal have classically got far too many no10s.”
Arsenal managed to rescue a point at Old Trafford thanks to Olivier Giroud’s late equaliser which cancelled out Juan Mata’s 69th-minute strike.
The Gunners are in fourth place and three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after the Blues were 1-0 winners at Middlesbrough.
The north Londoners will host Bournemouth at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
