Paul Merson states prediction for Chelsea v Tottenham
Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea to ease to a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening
Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to ease to victory over title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Blues are the Premier League’s form club after a run of six successive top-flight victories over Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Everton and Middlesbrough.
Remarkably, the west London side haven’t conceded a goal in their last six Premier League fixtures, while Conte’s side have scored 17 times thanks to the prolific form of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.
Tottenham, on the other hand, crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a 2-1 loss to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
Spurs have only won one of their last five Premier League fixtures, although the Lilywhites eased to a 3-2 win against West Ham United last time out.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson, who is a self-confessed Chelsea supporter, believes Chelsea will ease to a 3-1 victory over their London rivals.
“I’m going to go for Chelsea because I think Tottenham will play the same way as Chelsea and set up with three at the back,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“That’s a very difficult system to play off-the-cuff. I know they did it at Arsenal and did well but they’re playing against a team who are brilliant at it.”
Merson added: “I just think Tottenham are going to try and play the way that Chelsea play and I don’t think it will work.”
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
