Diego Forlan: Why Jurgen Klopp has advantage over Chelsea, Man United rivals
The former Manchester United striker explains why Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have slight title advantage
Diego Forlan believes Jurgen Klopp has an advantage over Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho in the Premier League title race.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager took over the reins of the Merseyside club back in October 2015 after Liverpool made a disappointing start to the 2015-16 season under Brendan Rodgers.
Klopp led the Reds to an eighth-place finish and two cups finals in his first campaign in England, although Liverpool lost to Manchester City in the League Cup and Sevilla in the Europa League.
Conte was confirmed as Guus Hiddink’s permanent successor earlier this year after Chelsea struggled to defend their Premier League crown and finished in tenth place last season.
Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in May after the Dutch coach guided the Red Devils to a fifth-place finish last term.
Former Manchester United striker Forlan believes Klopp has a head start on Conte and Mourinho after his appointment in the 2015-16 season.
“Klopp has an advantage over Mourinho and Conte as he has been at his club for longer,” Forland told The Nacional.
“His players are confident and have scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League. My only concern for them is that they concede too often – letting in more than any other team in the top seven.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table.
