Ex Man United midfielder issues backing for Jose Mourinho’s summer signing
Jesper Blomqvist is confident Henrikh Mkhitaryan will come good at Manchester United
Henrikh Mkhitaryan can blossom into an important Manchester United player, according to Jesper Blomqvist.
The Armenia international has endured a forgettable start to his Red Devils career so far after the attacking midfielder moved to Old Trafford in a £30m deal from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Mkhitaryan hasn’t started a Premier League game since his disappointing first-half performance in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to derby rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford in September.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star made a brief cameo appearance in the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Turkish side Fenerbahce in the Europa League before the international break.
However, Blomqvist, who was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s treble-winning squad in 1999, is confident Mkhitaryan will come good at Manchester United despite his slow start.
“He can definitely become a star,” Blomqvist told MUTV. “United is a big club and it takes longer to settle in for some players.
“Maybe Henrikh needs a little more time to settle in but, when you see how he reads the game and what he has achieved elsewhere, it’s surely only going to be a matter of time before he shows us what he can do at Old Trafford.”
The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of leaders Liverpool after 11 top-flight games.
