Andrei Kanchelskis insists it is too early to judge Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils have made a slow start to the 2016-17 Premier League season under their new manager after Louis van Gaal paid the price for their fifth-place finish last term.

Mourinho’s side are in sixth place in the table and nine points behind leaders Chelsea after Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have also struggled to find their stride in the Europa League – too, after losing twice to Fenerbahce and Feyenoord on the road.

Former Manchester United midfielder Kanchelskis is refusing to criticise Mourinho despite the 20-time English champions’ inconsistent form under the three-time Premier League winner.

“On the whole it’s difficult to judge United’s season so far. We need more time to judge Manchester United, the players and Mourinho,” said Kanchelskis, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

“We need to wait until the end of the season to see if there is a change or no change. Right now there has been only 12 games.”

Manchester United won their first piece of silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 last term when the Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
