Former Man United midfielder puzzled by Zlatan Ibrahimovic criticism
Andrei Kanchelskis admits he has been surprised by recent criticism of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Andrei Kanchelskis has admitted that he has been surprised by recent criticism of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Red Devils signed the 35-year-old centre-forward in a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
Ibrahimovic made an impressive start to his Premier League career after he scored against Leicester City, Bournemouth, Southampton and Manchester United in four of his opening five Premier League games.
However, the Swedish striker went 10 games without a goal before he netted twice in a 3-1 win against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in Manchester United’s last away fixture in the Premier League.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona star was criticised for his ineffective performances during his goal drought which even led to calls for Mourinho to drop Ibrahimovic.
But ex Manchester United midfielder Kanchelskis admits that he was left perplexed by criticism of Ibrahimovic.
“I also cannot understand the criticism of Ibrahimovic. Everybody knows he is a big player for big teams. He always helps these teams and he is the top goalscorer right now at United. Everyone loved him when he joined so why not now? There is no problem,” said Kanchelskis, speaking to 888sport.
The Red Devils will host West Ham United at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Saturday evening.
